Back in 2007 we’ve got a call from Sepand Samzadeh, he told us that he lived in the States and that he was in the Netherlands to vistit his family. He also told us that he just finished an album that he made with his friend Oscar Fuentes Bills and their band Days Between Stations. Sephand gave us the album and we were very impressed. That sunday we had sceduled a special about the late Rick van der Linden with as special guest in our studio Mieke van Zundert who made some very impressive paintings of Rick. Also a phone-call with Rick’s wife Inez was sceduled. We made some changes in our playlist, Spehand visited our show so a 30 minute special about Days Between Stations was aired. We talked about Days Between Stations, made a call with Oscar and off course played some tracks of the debut album Days Between Stations. This was probably the first radio-exposure for Days Between Stations outside the States! (check out playlist no 536 at http://www.paperlate.nl)
Now six years later Days Between Stations are headline news in progland. They released their second album “In Extremis” with an impressive list of guest musicians among them are: the late Peter Banks, Tony Levin, Rick Wakeman, Billy Sherwood.
Unfortunately Spehand isn’t in our country this Sunday, but we will talk to him (and probably Oscar to) by phone in our show.

Dutch allround artist René van Commenée can be considered as a member of the Van Der Graaf Generator family-tree. Making music is only a small part of the work of this artist but he worked together with David Jackson and Judge Smith. René just completed his second song-based album under the name of Mr Averell. Two ex-VDGG members as playing on the album: Judge Smith and David Jackson. Also Hugh Banton who still is a member of VDGG can be heard on the album. Among the other musicians are Lene Lovich, John Ellis and Stuart Gordon who all recorded with Peter Hammill, so the new Mr Averell album titled “GRIDLOCK” is a essential for all VDGG/Hammill fans. The album is a journey through different songs and instrumentals, all with the theatrical Van Commenée signature. We will talk with René about this album in our upcoming show this sunday and off-course we will play some of the songs of “Gridlock”. We must admit that this isn’t the way “Gridlock” should be listened to. The album is meant to be listened in its entire length just as Sgt Peppers and Dark side of the moon!

naamloos

In our 750th show a few members of PBII were in our studio to talk about their project “1000 Wishes” (watch this video
http://youtu.be/gqKWf2K_L7k ) and they also allowd us to play the raw version of the song “Evil Weed” with Steve Hackett on guitar. It’s time to talk again with one of the members of PBII: the album is released and reached number 1 in the “Wereldse 10” list from Progwereld, the album was played live with an orchestra and choir and another live-show is announced for June 9 in Rijswijk. Remember all profits of “1000 Wishes” go to KIKA (Kinderen Kankervrij = Children free of cancer)
