FunFairFront

This Sunday we’ll talk with Eddie Mulder. Eddie is guitar- and bassplayer from the Dutch prog-trio TRION. After six years the band just released their thrird album “Funfair Fantasy” on the Polish label “Oskar”. Since the release of “Pilgrim” in 2007 Trion contributed to several projects, but now finally there’s a new album. Funfair Fantasy contains 10 tracks, composed in Trion’s style. Within these tracks there was room for experimentation while “spontaneity” was a keyword when recording the album. For Trion this album means a logical development, after the band’s two previous albums. Trion is quite confident that “Funfair Fantasy” will find its way to fans of the prog/symfo genre once more.
Allmost at the same time Trion’s first album “Tortoise” that has become a very rare has been re-released. The re-release contains a few very interesting bonustracks. Stuff enough to talk about with Eddie tomorrow!

SIMIUS were headline news this week with the release of their second album “PARADIGM SHIFT”.
Two years ago we were allready very impressed by their first album “Overture Essence”, containing a nice mixture of seventies rock, classical music and today’s post-rock. The new album “PARADIGM SHIFT” goes a step further with a catching atmosphere that reminds of bands like Porcupine Tree and Muse. The first album was a very charming self recorded and produced album. PARADIGM SHIFT however was professional recorded and mixed. The album was mastered by no one less than Darcy Proper. This American lady has been honored with 2 Grammy awards and 7 nominations for her work. She worked with bands like Steely Dan, The Eagles and Porcupine Tree
PRADIGM SHIFT is a very impressing album and it allready brought SIMIUS to the attention of many progrock fans from all over the world.
We’re very proud to announce that the complete band will be in our studio this sunday. We will give away a few sully signed copys of the new album. If you want one, you have to do two things:

1. go the the Simius facebook page and click on “like” before the start of our show

They’re from the Paperlate hometown Bergen op Zoom and made very much impression with their first album two years back: SIMIUS. Their first album “Overuture Essence” was released two years back and even was in the top 10 of the Dutch charts for independend albums for several months. We’ve looked forward to the new album of the Led Zeppelin influenced progressive hardrockers! They played two of the new songs live in our 750th show back in January: http://youtu.be/xn-mp5zXZuc
The new Simius album “Paradigm Shift” wil be released this week. The release party is (offcourse) in Bergen op Zoom in Gebouw T on July 18 at 20.30 uur. It’s a free concert!!
We invited the complete band to be in our show next week to talk about the new album. This week you’ll get a sneak preview and we’ll have an interview with Simius member Laurens Kil.

catch22

French multi instumentalist Marcus grew up with music; he’s the son of the legandary MAGMA member Stella Vander. At young age he allready was a magnificent drummer and guitarplayer. Under the name MARCUS AND THE MUSIC he just released his first solo-album “CATCH 22”. As Marcus is a member of the Magma-family his album is released on Magma’s label Seventh Records.
The music on “Catch 22” has the energy of pure rock and incorporates complex melodic structures veering sometimes towards pop, folk, even east-Indian music. The sharp voice of Marcus reminds to Peter Hammill.
The Magma legend will live on in the next generation with Marcus! We’re glad we catched him for an interview tomorrow evening!

RUBEN VAN ROMPAEY - DRUMMER

It all started almost 15 years ago when the very young and talented drummer Ruben van Rompaey formed the band Metropolis with his brother Rutger van Rompaey on guitar and Donny Dietvorst on bass. Metropolis released the album “Time and Magic”. They played several times live in our show. A very limited album was released “Metropolis live at BRTO’s Paperlate” Both albums are now very sought-after.
Metropolis made fine fusion, but the memebers were too busy with their study and other projects to go ahead with this band.
Ruben is winner of several awards, such as the Tama Drummer’s Award (1999), Erasmus Jazz Award (2001) and a special Scholarship (2001). After having obtained his master degree cum laudeat at the conservatory, Ruben taught there for several years, before finally founding his own Eastern Expressions International School of Drums & Percussion in Rotterdam, with the notorious slogan: “Be Yourself” as the school’s vision.
As a solo artist and workshop leader Ruben performed at a variety of national and international Jazz and Bellydance festivals, which brought him to countries like USA and Japan.
Ruben became a big name in the scene of the world music for his cd trilogy “Eastern Expressions”.

Ruben was born in the Paperlate home-town Bergen op Zoom and grew up there. He left our city and our country for his carreer. He has been touring intensively in the far east, which has influenced his music. He’s back in our country for a little while and we are glad that he will visit our show after all those years. It’s allways a surprise what Ruben will do in our show. Ten years back he brought his drumkit with him without announcing this. Recently we discovered a video-recording in our archive of his improvistion during that show: http://youtu.be/Wk984Edu8XE
Ruben soon will release his new album “B who you R”, so we’re gonna talk about this and let you hear some pieces from this album. Maybe we have some improvisation on the studio again.
